Kristen Bell is probably best known for her roles in Hollywood movies such as ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ and as the voice of Anna in Disney’s ‘Frozen’. Now, following a recent interview, she is fast becoming the voice for millions of people suffering from depression. Speaking to Women’s Health magazine in the November edition, Kristen reveals her struggles with depression and how CBD has helped her cope with this debilitating mental condition. Kirsten says she first began speaking about mental health because she ran out of other stuff to talk about when being interviewed. She added, “Then I realized that this is a shame that prevents people from talking about it.” She says the hardest part about depression is the taboo associated with it. The ‘Bad Moms’ star said: “I immediately felt irresponsible, because I do care about depression not being taboo, yet I present this bubbly, outgoing girl who seemingly gets through life with a smile on her face, and I’d never discussed that some days, I don’t.” This rings true for so many people suffering from chronic or acute depression. There is a fear that opening up will cause embarrassment and shame. This is, of course, untrue. But for so many the fear of people finding out results in hiding the pain.
How CBD helps
Kirsten talks about how she manages her depression with antidepressants, exercise, therapy, and herbs. However, CBD particularly caught the attention of her and, in turn, millions of readers looking for a solution to this debilitating condition.
Cannabidiol or CBD as it is better known is a powerful compound found in the cannabis plant that has been shown to have anti-anxiety and antidepressant effects.
Scientists are currently researching this non-intoxicating cannabinoid as a potentially safer alternative to pharmaceutical antidepressant drugs. It is believed that CBD may manage the symptoms of depression because of its ability to interact with endogenous cannabinoids in the body that regulate many functions including mood.
Kristen is not a complete stranger to cannabis and its derivatives and, by coincidence, had a starring role in 2005 feel-good film ‘Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical’ – a satirical comedic take on the now infamous 1940s cannabis propaganda movie.
Kristen finds that CBD drops from a tincture bottle placed under her tongue helps calm her mind and turn off the constant chatter of the mental to-do list.
CBD is legal and available throughout the UK but consumers are advised to only purchase from a manufacturer who can provide independent 3rd party lab analysis reports to confirm the quality of the oil.
